This policy is provided by Frowning Gorilla Ltd ("Frowning Gorilla", "we", "us"), a company registered in England and Wales. It covers the Shape n Ship app.
What data does Shape n Ship collect?
None. Frowning Gorilla does not collect, transmit to itself, store on its own servers, or share any personal information.
The app has no analytics, no crash reporting service, no advertising SDK, and no third-party services of any kind. It does not know who you are, where you are, or how you use it.
Where is your data stored?
The content you create in Shape n Ship — including your apps, releases, bugs, features, promotion campaigns, channels, notes, attachments, and preferences — is stored locally on your device using Apple's standard on-device storage.
If you are signed in to iCloud, that data is also synced via Apple's CloudKit service to your own private iCloud database. This is what allows your data to appear automatically across your Mac, iPhone, and iPad. The data travels to and from Apple's CloudKit servers to keep your devices in sync, but:
- It is stored in your own private iCloud database, under your personal Apple ID.
- It syncs only between your own devices signed in to the same Apple ID.
- It is handled by Apple, under Apple's terms.
- Frowning Gorilla has no access to it. We cannot read it, retrieve it, or recover it on your behalf.
If you are not signed in to iCloud, your data simply stays on your device. Either way, it is never sent to Frowning Gorilla.
Apple's privacy policy governs how iCloud handles your data. You can read it at apple.com/legal/privacy.
Exporting your data
Shape n Ship lets you export your data (for example as JSON or CSV) at any time, whether or not you are paying. Exported files are created on your own device and go wherever you choose to save them. Frowning Gorilla is not involved in and has no access to your exports.
Paying for Shape n Ship
All payment processing for Shape n Ship is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never see or store your payment details.
Apple's privacy policy applies to the purchase transaction. You can read it at apple.com/legal/privacy.
Third-party services
Shape n Ship uses no third-party services, frameworks, or SDKs. It makes no network connections to anyone other than Apple — specifically Apple's CloudKit (to sync your data to your own iCloud) and Apple's StoreKit (to handle App Store purchases). There are no advertising networks, analytics platforms, crash reporters, social media integrations, or external APIs.
A note on AI features
Shape n Ship includes a few AI-assisted conveniences, and it's worth being precise about how they work:
- Some on-device features — such as suggesting a title or tidying text via the system Writing Tools popover — use Apple's on-device intelligence (the FoundationModels framework) on supported systems. These run entirely on your device. Nothing is sent to any server.
- Shape n Ship can also generate detailed text prompts for you to use with a separate AI assistant of your choice (such as Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini). These prompts are created on your device for you to copy and paste into whichever tool you already use.
In all cases, Shape n Ship itself does not send your data to any AI service. It has no AI integration that transmits anything off your device. What you choose to do with a generated prompt — including which AI tool you paste it into — is entirely up to you and governed by that tool's own privacy policy.
Children's privacy
Shape n Ship does not collect data from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If Shape n Ship ever changes in a way that affects privacy — for example, if a future version adds crash reporting or any other data handling — this page will be updated to reflect that before the update is released. The date at the bottom of this page shows when it was last revised.
